Food and wine are just like old lovers. When on their own both have charm, charisma & presence but when they're together they form a whole that is bigger than it's parts.
Nestled in the beautiful landscape of Ein Kerem, Hotel Alegra gives lovers center stage and its walls are loaded with romatic memories. The story of the building starts back in the late 1920s when an impossible love story developed between Alegra Bello, a beautiful Jewish girl from Machane Yehuda, and Jebra Francis Rahil from the village of Ein Kerem. At the height of their romance, the two lovers ran away to Bethlehem, where Alegra decided to convert to Christianity and the two secretly married. In 1930 the couple returned and settled in Ein Kerem, where they built the house of their dreams. This house turned into an hotel that manages to preserve the love and romance that was always there.
Just like real lovers, food and wine need a romantic atmosphere in order to create a special event, evermore so when the event is a dinner where food from locally sourced ingredients is matched by local wines. Over the next few months the hotel's restaurant will serve a tasting menu created by head Chef Yaron Vinkler accompanied by wines from Castel, Chilag and Flam winery of course, all of which are locally produced.
Chef Yaron Vinkler is renowned for his love of local ingredients. He believes things tastes best where they grow. He applies the exact same principle when it comes to wine. He loves honest wines which reflect the place they come from. But this is not where it ends. Yaron takes food and wine matching a step further and combines wine in most of his recipes. The swiss chard soup and Flam Blanc was one of our personal favourites.
Hotel Alegra know how to respect the romantic tradition into which it was born and in its tasting menu just like in real life Yaron and his team are here to innovate and make sure the experience is always a real excitement.
