Good wine starts in a quality vineyardGolan’s passion for winemaking has been part of him since childhood, while he was playing in the experimental vineyards of the University of California Davis viticulture & oenology program, where his father was a student.
Golan started his professional career studying agriculture in Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot ,at the Hebrew University Jerusalem, and continued his studies for a master’s degree in viticulture & oenology in the Piacenza University near Milan.
Upon the successful completion of his studies, he became an intern in the Carpineto Winery of Tuscan fame (http://www.carpineto.com/carpineto-vino-toscana/azienda-carpineto.asp ). This period of his life had a major influence on his oenological ideology.
From Italy he went on to work at Tintara Winery in McLaren Vale, South Australia (http://www.tintara.com.au/home.htm ), in order to specialize in warm climate viticulture and winemaking, similar to the weather conditions found in Israel, with the vision of returning home and crafting world class wines. In 1998, once Golan finished the internships, he returned home to realize his dream: establishing a high quality winery in Israel.
Ideology
I firmly believe that the secret of wine’s allure and its marvelous taste are rooted in the winemakers’ devotion to the vine cultivation in the vineyards (pruning, shoot thinning, green harvest, and finally harvesting at best phenolic maturation), followed by a hands on approach to all the processes taking place within the winery.
We consider the purity of fruit, and its delicate balance with the oak derived flavors of paramount importance.
Each vineyard is divided into distinct plots. The fruit originating in a certain plot is then fermented and aged separately in order to highlight the integrity of the terroir of each vineyard. The final blend amounts to more than the mere sum of its constituent parts.
We are committed to the production of high quality Israeli wines, boasting intense colors, rich fruity aromas with finely integrated oak. Our wines are both rich & powerful, as much as they are balanced & velvety.
Our Team here at Flam winery believes in sustained quality and a commitment to excellence that are expressed both in the vineyards and the winemaking process.
